Moral Theology
Moraltheology, works from a significant Convent library, originally printed in the 16th -18th Centuries
New publications in eBooks*.
We published eleven eBooks by the Jesuit Jeremiah Drexel (1581 – 1638).
Drexel wrote so gently about problems in a spiritual life, that his works were also enjoyed by Anglicans in England.
Drexel advocated spiritual reading, physical mortification, prayers and work, the fight against idleness and in a positive way a constant thinking of God. And – as a kind of Individual Psychology (here not meant in the sense of Alfred Adler) – a mental visualization of the torments of hell and the destiny of heaven. In other words, an individual trial or attempt versus ‘temptations out there’. Own studies of consciousness is also important to him. Drexel therefore recommends using a psychological cognitive (of course not in this wording) methodology, such as an attitude or even mentally to operate with anticipations, thus, to combat life’s omnipresent dangers.
Another Jesuit writer shall be introduced here, his name is Jean L. Surin (lived 1600–1665). We republished his works in nine eBooks, including the ‘Ten Commandments’.
Surin emphasizes the individual necessity to a pure and complete will for perfection. He sees the Holy Spirit as the guide to perfection, to whom a person should completely surrender. Everything in his writings lays obviously in own observations and he described individual experience as the most central category and in having unity with God as pure and precious love.
