Dutch Baroque Paintings / Drawings

Dutch Baroque Paintings / drawings

This collection includes the biographical details and images for the Artworks from 169 Artists, classified as Dutch Baroque Paintings / drawings.

It features art historical information and images for these paintings and drawings*.

And – if it was / is researchable – included are also an artist’s biographical details.

And many work data contain additional art historical notes.

In total, the works in this collection are classified – from an art historical perspective – into 117 different “subject headings.”

If applicable, the following keywords provide scientifically sound art historian’s textual* and image data* for each artwork:
Künstlername (Artit’s name)
Titel Gemaelde / Zeichnung (title of artwork)
Entstehungsjahr (year when created)
Technik und Materialien (technique and materials used)
Maße des Werkes (Höhe x Breite) (size, height x width)
Bildbeschreibung (description ot the painting)
Stilistische Einordnung zu einer bestimmten Kunstrichtung oder Epoche (Renaissance)
Ikonographische Analyse, Deutung der Bildinhalte und Symbole, d. h. weitere kunsthistorische Beschreibungen wie z. B. Badeszene, Mythologie, Stilleben. usw.
(Iconographic Analysis, content description such as Bathing scene, mythology, still life).

Unlike in German countries during the Baroque period (see our pages THEOLOGY), Dutch Baroque visual art is characterized by more ‘secular’ themes, such as still life, landscapes, etc., meaning less Christian themes.

The iconographic analysis is especially interesting because – aside textual interpretations and where appropriate –- identifies furthermore image details, i.e. notable facial expressions.
This focused selection offers valuable insights into the iconographic analysis of each work.

As a result, our database includes also image details from these paintings and drawings, chosen as significant from an art-historical point of view.
