Liturgiewissenschaft
Liturgical works from a significant Convent library, originally printed in the 17th & 18th Centuries.
New publications in eBooks.
Here is a brief introduction why and how we present some text pagess in ENGLISH LANGUAGE together with GERMAN LANGUAGE texts in the same page.
Approx. half of our titles are in German Language, including names of collections, sets, subsets, Biographic Records etc. Therefore, we decided to leave all related Webpages in German Language. And where adequate to content of our Media / eBooks, of course we introduced such Webpages in English Language or French Language.
What is Liturgy and what are Liturgical Studies, here is an explanation we like:
“…Dom Guéranger explains how the official prayer of the church is the most agreeable to God and the most powerful, since it is inspired by the Holy Spirit who resides in the Church and whom Christ has sent to His Spouse in order that He might teach s to pray as we should.
Liturgy is thus Christ’s prayer continued in the Church, which renews His mysteries each year and renders them present to us. Christ is therefore the object of Liturgy……
In addition, poetry has its particular role to play during the unfolding of this great drama. First of all, it inspires Liturgy with its most beautiful Old and New Testament Canticles. Secondly, it provides the melodies most worthy of such text.” (3)
The Benedictine Abbey in Solesmes, France (our comment; this is a Benedictine Monastery, remember? Monks are there, not Nuns), is the world centre in Gregorian chant. This Monastery is over 1,000 years old and suffered – also – the consequences that all Monasteries (and especially Convents) around 1805 (Secularisation) had to endure.
This Monastery was then reinstated in 1833 during the so-called July Monarchy of Louis-Philippe d’Orléans from 1830 to 1848 (see more at HISTORY / La Caricature).
Guéranger (see above) was very committed to the ‘rebirth’ of Solesmes Abbey (Monastery), finally he became its Abbé.
Back to Liturgy, here we introduced Solesmes Abbey because it is an important Benedictine Monastery in Europe.
And we are unaware of any other description of Liturgy as beautiful as the words above from Abbé Guéranger describing Liturgy as the highest, most intimate – spiritually – unity with God, at least trying to get near God as closest as possible.
