237 titles (published before 1789) were written anonymously in French.

Originally, these 3,658 French titles were published in Austria , Belgium, the Netherlands , England , Germany , Switzerland and, of course, France .

For the period 1790-1840, 110 French-language titles were written anonymously.

These collections do not contain “classic” works, but titles by lesser-known or unknown writers.

The entire collection is subdivided into sub-collections with Literature-Genres as follows:

Novels in 345 / titles, 264,278 p. by women writers / in 590 titles, 452,000 p. by male & anon. writers,

Short stories in 40 titles, 27,258 p. by women writers / in 224 titles, 103,618 p. by male & anon. writers,

Drama (theater) in 18 titles, 5,368 p. by women writers / in 889 titles (!), 253,416 p. by 460 (!) male & anonymous writers: Tragedy: 130 titles, Comedy : 229 titles, Melodramas : 145 titles, Vaudeville : 41 titles, other dramatic genres: 233, Collection of plays : 39 titles, Farces : 6 titles, other drama : 57 titles; Comment: as for novels , most French-language dramas – 881 titles / 253,416 pages – are written by male / anonymous authors and 18 titles / 5,368 pages are written by female writers; This difference between the quantities of novels, drama (and poetry) written by women writers compared to men/anonymous writers, is astonishing – or perhaps not;
